Introduction

Amla is found everywhere in gardens and forests in India. It is found up to a height of 4,500 feet above sea level. The fruits of Amla grown in gardens are large and the fruits of wild Amla are small. The leaves of this tree are like that of tamarind tree but its leaves are a little bigger and are called Shatapatra. Amla is the best among chemical substances. By consuming it, old age cannot affect a person. That is why in Ayurveda it is called Amrit fruit and Dhatri fruit etc.


External appearance

Amla tree is medium sized and 20-25 feet tall. Its stem is crooked and 5-9 feet thick. Its bark is greenish grey, thin and leaves a layer. Petiole is long, leaves are rectangular and arranged like feather like tamarind leaves. Flower stem is long, in which small, yellow flowers are arranged in bunches. Fruits are spherical, half to one inch in diameter, pulpy, green with yellow tinge and become red when ripe. There are six lines on the fruits. Inside the fruit there is hexagonal seed. Flowers start blooming in February-May and fruits are available from October to April.


Chemical composition

Amla fruit is rich in vitamin C. It contains 20 times more vitamin C than orange juice. Amla contains gallic acid, tannic acid, extract, sugar, albumen, cellulose and calcium. The components found in the fruit's pulp and juice per 100 grams are as follows:

Water content 81.2 mg, protein 0.5 mg, fat 0.1 mg, phosphorus 0.02 mg, calcium 0.05 mg, iron 1.2 mg, nicotinic acid 0.2 mg. Tannin is 28 percent in the fruit, 21 percent in the branch skin, 8.9 percent in the stem bark and 22 percent in the leaves. A brownish yellow coloured stable oil (16%) comes out from the seeds.

Properties

1. Being absorbent, diuretic, blood purifier and appetizing, Amla cures diseases like diarrhoea, diabetes, burning sensation, jaundice, acidity, explosive, anemia, hemorrhoids, blocked intestines, indigestion, anorexia, asthma, cough etc. It sharpens eyesight. Strengthens semen and increases longevity.

2. It destroys the three doshas. Being acidic, it destroys vata, being sweet and cold, it destroys bile and being dry and dry, it destroys phlegm.

3. It is leprosy-destroyer, fever-destroyer and chemical.

4. It strengthens the heart and is blood-restore.

5. It is a vasoprotector and pregnancy-restore.

6. Amla destroys diabetes and leprosy. And beneficial for eyes, it is digestive and destroys malarial fever.

7. Amla is slightly sweet, bitter, astringent and its juice is beneficial for eyes, destroys tridosha, increases sperm count.


Medicinal use

Eye diseases

  • Chop 20-50 grams of Amla fruits and boil them in half a kilo of water for two hours, filter that water and apply it in eyes three times a day, it is very beneficial in eye diseases.
  • The liquid that comes out by making a hole in Amla grown on the tree. Applying it around the outside of the eye removes the swelling of the white part of the intestine.
  • Putting Amla juice in the eyes or mixing 4 grams of juice of drumstick leaves and 250 milligrams of sea salt together and applying it, destroys fresh inflammation.
  • Chop 7 grams of Amla and soak it in cold water. After two-three hours, squeeze out those oils and throw them away and then soak other Amla in that water. After two-three hours, squeeze them and throw them away as well. This way, pour that water in the eyes three-four times. This removes the swelling of the eyes.

Hair health

1. Soak 30 grams of dried Amla, 10 grams of Baheda, 50 grams of mango kernel and 10 grams of lead powder in a pan overnight. Applying it on hair daily makes the hair that has turned white at a young age black in a few days.

2. Making a decoction of Amla, Reetha and Shikakai and washing the hair makes the hair soft, thick and long. This Amla hair oil is also good for hair.

3 . Grinding amla and mango seed together and applying it on head produces long hair with strong roots."

Nosebleed: Grinding jamun, mango and amla finely with kanji etc. and applying it on head stops the blood flowing in nose like the velocity of water is stopped by bridge.

Dissonance: Mixing 1 to 2 grams of powder of Ajmoda, turmeric, amla and chitrak in equal quantity and licking it with 2 spoons of honey and 1 spoon of ghee removes Swar Bhed.

Breathing 

1. Hiccups and breathing problems can be cured by using 2-2 grams of powder of Pippali, Amla, dry ginger mixed with 10 grams of sugar and 1 teaspoon of honey repeatedly."

2. Taking 10-20 grams of Amla juice and 2-3 grams of Peepal powder with 2 teaspoons of honey twice a day is beneficial in hiccups.

Vomiting

1. In hiccups and vomiting, giving 10-20 ml of Amla juice mixed with 5-10 grams of sugar candy provides relief. This can be given two-three times a day. 10-15 grams of powder can also be given with water.

2. In tridosha-induced vomiting, grind Amla and grapes and mix 40 grams of sugar, 40 grams of honey and 100 grams of water and drink it after filtering it through a cloth.

3. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey and 10 grams of white sandalwood in 20 grams of Amla juice Mixing the powder of and drinking it stops vomiting.

Acidity

  • Taking 1-2 pieces of fresh Indian gooseberry with sugar candy or 25 grams of its juice with equal quantity of honey in the morning cures the complaints of sour belching and acidity.

  • Soaking 10 grams of seeds of Indian gooseberry in water overnight and grinding it in cow milk the next day and giving it with 250 grams of cow milk is beneficial in excess bile.

Dysentery: Making a decoction of its leaves with fenugreek seeds and giving it twice a day in the amount of 10 to 20 grams cures dysentery.

Kamala: To cure liver weakness and jaundice, make chutney of Indian gooseberry with honey and take it morning and evening.

Urticaria

1. Mixing 2 grams of turmeric and 10 grams of honey in 10-20 grams of its fresh bark and giving it morning and evening cures dysuria.

2. Adding cardamom powder to 20 grams juice of Amla and drinking it two-three times a day cures urinary tract infection.

Purgation: In blood bile disease, especially for those patients who need purgation, 20-40 ml juice of Amla should be mixed with sufficient quantity of honey and beni and given to them.

Constipation: Powder of Amla bark is used as Triphala powder in liver enlargement, headache, constipation, piles and indigestion. Quantity 3 to 6 grams with water three times a day. Taking 3-6 grams of Triphala powder with warm water at night before sleeping cures constipation.

Hemorrhoids

1. Grind Amla well and apply the powder in an earthen pot. Then fill the vessel with buttermilk and make the patient drink it, this is beneficial in piles.

2. If there is excessive bleeding from piles, then 3-6 grams of Indian gooseberry powder should be taken with cream of curd two-three times a day.

Spermatorrhea: Mixing twice the amount of sugar candy in 10 grams of seedless Indian gooseberry powder dried in the sun and adding 250 grams of fresh water to it, continuously for 15 days is definitely beneficial in diseases like nocturnal emission, spermatorrhea etc.

Blood Diarrhoea: If there is excessive bleeding due to blood diarrhoea, then mix 10-20 grams of amla juice with 10 grams of honey and 5 grams of ghee and then add 100 grams of goat milk three times a day."

Blood tumour: Drinking amla juice with black pepper cures blood tumour.

Gonorrhoea: Mixing 2-5 gm powder of amla in a glass of water and drinking it and spraying the same water in the urinary tract calms down the swelling and burning sensation and gradually the wound heals and pus stops coming out.

1. Take amla, harad baheda, nagarmotha, daru-haldi, deodar in equal quantity and prepare them as per the prescribed method and give 10-20 grams of this mixture to the patient of gonorrhoea in the morning and evening."

2. Take equal quantity of amla, giloy, neem bark, parwal leaf, take it in 50 grams quantity and soak it in half a kilo of water for 12 hours and then cook it, when one fourth remains, mix it with 2 spoons of honey in the kashaya and consume it three times a day to cure pitta gram.

Pitta dosha: Juice of Amla, Rasvat Madhu, Cow Ghee, taken in equal parts and mixed together, Rasa Kriya is done to cure Pitta dosha and eye diseases caused by blood disorders. It also cures blackness and diseases caused in the retina of the eye.

Menokrug: Mix one gram of cumin powder in 20 grams of Amla juice and consume it twice a day. In absence of fresh Amla, soak 20 grams of dry Amla powder at night and consume it in the morning and soak it in the morning and filter it at night and consume it. Consuming Amla patiently is very beneficial in frequent bleeding caused by Pitta outbreak.

Leucorrhoea: Grind 20-30 grams of Amla seeds with water, filter the water and mix 2 teaspoons of honey and powdered sugar in it and drink it, it is beneficial in Leucorrhoea.

Poor digestion: Grate the cooked aavli and add proper amount of black pepper, dry ginger, common salt, roasted cumin seeds and asafoetida in it, make a badiya and dry it in shade and consume it, it increases the bile secretion of the liver, which removes loss of appetite, poor digestion and constipation. The mind becomes happy by getting illuminated.

Diarrhoea: Grind 5-6 aavli in water and apply it around the navel of the patient avoiding their hair and put ginger juice in the plate. By using the juice, even diarrhoea, which is as difficult to conquer as the speed of a very fierce river, gets cured.

Vaginal burning: Take 20 ml of aavla. Mixing 5 gm sugar and 10 gm honey in the juice and drinking it provides great relief in vaginal burning.

Bile colic: Mixing 2-6 gm powder of amla with a spoon of honey should be licked in the morning on an empty stomach to calm down biliary colic.

Arthritis: Boiling 20 gm dry amla and 20 gm jaggery in 600 gm water and filtering the stool when 250 gm water remains and drinking it in the morning and evening provides relief in arthritis but salt should be avoided at that time.

Hematemesis

1. It is used in disorders arising from all the three doshas, ​​especially in physical disorders, blood bile, diabetes etc. Therefore, after purification of the body, mix 2 grams of turmeric with 1 teaspoon of honey in 10-20 ml juice of dill and give it to the patient thrice a day.

2 If the cause of vomiting of blood in hemoptysis is ulcer in the stomach, then 5 to 10 grams of amla powder is given with curd or 10-20 grams of decoction is also given with jaggery.

Fever disorders: By taking amla, jasmine leaves, nagarmotha, jwasa in equal parts and making decoction, after mixing jaggery in it and consuming it, the disorders inside the body of the patient of fever come out soon.

Erysipelas: By mixing 10 grams of ghee in 10-20 grams of amla juice and giving it to the patient two-three times a day, the disease of erysipelas is cured.

Leprosy: Make fine powder of equal parts of amla and neem leavesTaking 2 to 6 grams or 10 grams of this mixture with honey every morning gives quick relief even in severe leprosy.

Itching: Burn the seed of Indian gooseberry and make it ashes and mix it with coconut oil and apply it on any type of itching, wet or dry, it gives relief.

Abscess: Applying its milk cures abscess which cause a lot of pain.

Bile diseases: Eating 1-2 pieces of fresh fruit jam, especially Indian gooseberry jam in the morning on an empty stomach cures bile diseases.

Knife wound: If any place is cut by a knife or something else and there is a lot of bleeding, then immediately extracting fresh Indian gooseberry juice and applying it gives relief.

Longevity:

1. Consuming only Indian gooseberry powder at night with ghee or honey or water increases the strength of the senses like eyes, ears, nose, etc., increases the digestive fire and youth is attained.

2. Mix 3-6 grams of Amla powder with Amla juice and 2 teaspoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of ghee and lick it twice a day and then drink milk after that. By this even an 80 year old man becomes as happy as a young man.
